Mevagissey
Mevagissey and the surrounding area
Many of our guests talk a walk in the evening and enjoy a meal or drink in one of the many restaurants and pubs in the village. There is a wide variety of shops, galleries and other attractions in the village. You can take a fishing trip for mackerel, pollock or mullet with one of our local fishmen - look for their signs by the harbour - or try a deep-sea trip for sharks ! Boats can be hired to allow you to explore the coast nearby or take the Mevagissey to Fowey ferry across St Austell Bay to discover the delights of Fowey with its yachting and literary connections.
While you're down on the harbourside, call in to the village's local attractions; Mevagissey Aquarium and Mevagissey Museum. They're both very interesting and well worth a visit. There's no entry fee, just a donation, please!
The Lost Gardens of Heligan are a short way inland from Mevagissey. Walk there on the off-road cycleway /footpath, on down to Pentewan village and beach or continue up the Pentewan Valley to St Austell, the nearest town to Mevagissey. St Austell has rail /coach and bus stations in the same location, just above the town centre. There is a good selection of shops, all major banks etc. The town also has a 10-pin Bowling Alley, 'Ozzell Bowl', a Leisure Centre, Polkyth, with sports hall, fitness centre, squash courts, sauna, swiming pool etc and Tregorrick Park, St Austell Rugby Club, which has a Sport Hall, Fitness Centre and 6 all-weather Tennis Courts.
